Embu: One arrested as police recover stolen items in robbery probe

By , May 3, 2026

Police in Embu County have arrested one person of interest and recovered a cache of suspected stolen items following an intelligence-led operation targeting a robbery network that has been under investigation for weeks.

The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via X on Sunday, May 3, 2026, said the breakthrough came after officers conducted a coordinated raid within Embu Town, acting on credible leads linking a local shop to a series of robbery-with-violence incidents reported by residents and business owners.

“For some time now, police officers in Embu County have been undertaking sustained and intelligence-led investigations into a series of reported robbery with violence incidents that have caused concern among residents and business owners,” the NPS stated.

“These efforts reached a critical breakthrough yesterday, when a coordinated joint operation was executed within Embu Town. Acting on credible leads, officers raided a shop suspected of being linked to the criminal activities under investigation.”

Intelligence-led raid

According to police, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle a criminal ring believed to be behind multiple theft cases in the area.

During the raid, officers searched the premises and recovered several items suspected to have been stolen, including mobile phones, laptops, and decoders.

The recovery is expected to aid investigators in linking the suspect to reported cases and tracing additional victims.

“The operation resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of items believed to be stolen property. Among the exhibits recovered were assorted mobile phones, laptops, and decoders, among other items,” the statement reads in part.

The arrested individual is currently in police custody and is expected to be processed and arraigned in court as investigations continue.

Authorities say they are working to establish the full extent of the suspect’s involvement and to identify other members of the suspected criminal network.

Police indicated that the arrest marks a significant step in efforts to curb robbery incidents in Embu, but cautioned that investigations are still ongoing.

They noted that the recovered items will be subjected to verification processes, including identification by victims and forensic analysis where necessary.

Renewed crackdown on crime

The operation is part of a broader push by security agencies to address rising concerns over robbery with violence in parts of Embu County.

Law enforcement agencies have in recent weeks intensified intelligence gathering and surveillance operations aimed at disrupting organised criminal activities across the country.

In Mombasa, police officers on Saturday, May 2, 2026, arrested a person of interest linked to a recent violent incident near Trend Villa Bar, following an intelligence-led operation targeting organised criminal gangs operating within the coastal city.

The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via X, said the person of interest, believed to be associated with the notorious “Panga Boys” gang, was arrested in Nyali Sub-county after officers intensified surveillance and tracking operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks responsible for attacks on residents and social spaces.

According to security reports, officers acted on credible intelligence that led them to the Gas Field area, where the said person of interest was cornered and arrested.
