Eldoret roads spruced up for counties meet
The Uasin Gishu County government over 120 kilometres road projects in Eldoret town under a programme to improve infrastructure in preparation for the devolution conference scheduled to take place in the town later this month.
The devolution conference will be held from August 16 to 19 with more than 10,000 delegates expected to attend.
Governor Jonathan Bii yesterday thanked the business community in the town for heeding the call to prepare early for the event which is expected to be grazed by President William Ruto.
“I thank the business community, especially those with hotels and related businesses for the preparations that they have put in place to receive the visitors,” said Bii (pictured).
Besides the anticipated boom in the hotel and transport business in the town, the devolution conference has come as a blessing to the town’s infrastructure.
County Executive in charge of Roads, Transport and Public Works Joseph Lagat said the roads had been tarmacked in partnership with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
“Apart from the urban roads, we are in the process of installing street lights from the Eldoret International Airport to town for security purposes. We have already installed street lights and high masts at the venue and also some estates like Langas and Elgon View,” said Lagat.
