‘I will sign for the impeachment of Gachagua’ – MP Ekwom Nabuin

By , September 25, 2024

Turkana North Member of Parliament Ekwom Nabuin has joined the growing number of leaders calling for the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Nabuin stated that he would sign and support any impeachment motion against Gachagua, whom he deemed unfit for office.

Nabuin expressed dissatisfaction with Gachagua’s previous advocacy for the “one man, one vote, one shilling” system, which he believes would have severely impacted marginalized communities.

“I will personally sign for the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua because he is not fit to be the deputy president of Kenya. We, as political leaders from pastoralist areas, were unhappy when he pushed for ‘one shilling, one man, one vote.’ That was a killer strategy, a killer theme. If the motion to impeach Gachagua is brought, we in the opposition will support it,” Nabuin said.

Nabuin’s accusations

He accused Gachagua of failing to represent the entire nation, instead focusing on Mount Kenya’s regional politics.

“He has shown himself to be a tribalist, only talking about Mount Kenya politics while forgetting that he is the deputy president of Kenya. He has invited his current predicaments, and now it is coming back to bite him,” Nabuin added.

Last week, Gachagua addressed the ongoing impeachment discussions, revealing that he has received inside information regarding meetings held to plot his removal.

DP claims

Speaking during a televised interview on September 20, 2024, Gachagua claimed that the meetings took place in Nyahururu and at the home of an unnamed cabinet Secretary.

He also alleged that money changed hands during a meeting in Kitsuru, though he did not disclose specific amounts.
