EACC grill Mbai over alleged assault of KPLC staff
Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai (pictured) was yesterday grilled for hours by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over an alleged assault on a Kenya Power official.
Speaking after being grilled for over three hours, the MP denied ever assaulting the said official.
“No I never assaulted anyone. Did you see me? I am a pastor and did not do that,” he said.
He maintained that he was not aware of the alleged attack on the Kenya Power official, despite a video going viral showing him landing several slaps on the hapless official.
Firearm confiscated
In the viral video, the MP is seen accusing the Kenya Power officials of incompetence, before descending on one of them with slaps while demanding that he calls one of his juniors to reconnect electricity supply to his residence.
The incident occured in Kitengela, Kajiado county early this month.
He was initially arrested following the incident, driven to the Kajiado law courts before being driven back to Kitengela police station without any charges being preferred against him.
His firearm was however confiscated.
The incident drew widespread condemnation from a cross section of Kenyans, with Kenya Power employees staging a demonstration to the Kitengela police station to demand the MP’s arrest and prosecution.
