Drama in court as Sonko’s lawyers, magistrate clash

By , March 4, 2021

There was drama at Milimani anti-corruption court on Thursday morning after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s lawyers exchanged bitter words with Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti.

The exchange of words happened after the magistrate allowed the Director of Public Prosecutions to adduce new evidence in Sh10 million graft case against Sonko.

Ogoti also declined to recuse himself from the case saying Sonko had not proved claims of biasness by him.

The court also ordered Sonko to be ready for the next hearing of his case on March 15.

The magistrate ruled that he would not allow any further adjournment for lack of sufficient and directed that if Sonko’s lawyers will not be ready, his case must proceed without further delay.
