DP Ruto sends warm message to MP Rigathi Gachagua after his arrest
Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence following the arrest of his ardent supporter Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
MP Gachagua was on Friday morning arrested by DCI officers at his Nyeri home and driven to DCI headquarters along Kiambu road.
In a message to the MP, DP Ruto regretted that Gachagua was arrested because he is his ally.
He urged the MP to remain strong as the almighty God will vindicate him in the fullness of time.
“My bro Gachagua. I know you are strong because we knew these politically instigated trump up charges were coming. This persecution on account of our friendship and political beliefs will come to an end. They have connections, networks, pedigree & godfathers BUT we have GOD our farther,” Ruto tweeted.
On Friday morning, Rigathi dismissed the grounds of his arrest saying the reasons are baseless.
He stated that he was expecting the arrest since it was premeditated for a long period of time
“As predicted two dozens of DCI officers raided my Nyeri home and arrested me to face trumped-up charges of money laundering. I am being driven to Nairobi at reckless speed to spend the weekend in the cells. I am happy it is finally over. It has been two years of hell; being arrested and released, writing countless statements, being prosecuted in the media, intimidation and harassment to me and family,” his statement read in part.
“I am happy I now have a chance to be vindicated in a court of law as our courts are independent. To our tormentors and persecutors, you only have one year remaining. We shall have a new democratic Government that does not use the criminal justice system to manage politics. I appreciate it is their bitterness with the loss of the Kiambaa by-election. Though I played a minimal role, I had no vote,” it added.
