Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has showered President William Ruto with praises, claiming that he has managed to turn around the economy.

Speaking in Mwatate, Taita Teveta County on Sunday, November 10, 2024, where he attended a thanksgiving service, Kindiki noted that Ruto had managed to lower the inflation rate to 2.7 per cent.

While crediting Ruto for the significant change, DP Kindiki told the congregants that the last time the inflation rate was at its current rate was 17 years ago when the late President Mwai Kibaki was reigning.

Kindiki who was picked to replace the impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, detailed that Ruto managed to bring down inflation and stabilise the economy despite facing stiff opposition and the prevailing global issues.

“The macroeconomic situation in our country is now better than it was in 2022. Inflation has come down. For the first time, inflation is at 2.7 per cent, the lowest in 17 years,” Kindiki stated.

“The last time Kenya had an inflation of below 3 per cent was in 2017 just before the post-election violence.”

“The macroeconomic is okay, thanks to the hard work of President Ruto under a very difficult situation with a difficult opposition and a difficult world environment,” he added.

According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) report, the overall year-on-year (annual) inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 2.7 per cent, in October 2024; a decrease from an inflation rate of 3.6 per cent recorded in September 2024.

Kindiki echoes Ruto’s words

At the same time, the DP echoed President Ruto’s word stating that the Kenya Kwanza administration is now focused on delivering the campaign promises.

He further maintained that Ruto’s administration will also work to eradicate corruption among its ranks and wastage of public resources.

“The Government, with the guidance of President William Samoei Ruto is determined to complete all pending infrastructure development programmes and initiate new ones, and ensure prudent management of resources by cracking down on corruption and wastage,” Kindiki assured Kenyans.

Kindiki appeared to speak the same language as his boss who attended a church service in Kwisero, Kakamega County. President Ruto also stated that his administration will now start implementing the development projects starting next year.

“We have stabilised the economy, inflation is now down, and we have addressed all the other things that were disturbing us. Now, from this year, next year, and 2026, there will be years of work,” Ruto told Kwisero residents.

“Politics of disturbing one another we have finished, now we have come together as Kenyans from all parts of the country and we are focused on delivering our development commitment to the people of Kenya.”
