DP Kindiki jets out for his first assignment as second in command

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has flown out of the country to Botswana on his first international assignment just one week after becoming Kenya’s second-in-command.

On Friday, November 8, 2024, Kindiki left the country to attend the inauguration of Botswana’s newly elected President Duma Boko who was elected into office on November 1.

The inauguration ceremony will be held today at the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana, Kindiki will be representing President William Ruto who is currently in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Kindiki is accompanied by two senators and five members of the National Assembly.

“Left the Country this morning, arrived at the Sir Sereste Khama International Airport, Gaborone, Botswana, to represent President William Samoei Ruto in the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of Duma Gideon Boko as the 6th President of the Republic of Botswana,” Kindiki said.

“Accompanied by Senators Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo) and Eddy Oketch (Migori) and National Assembly Members; Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), John Njuguna Kawanjiku (Kiambaa), Victor Koech (Chepalungu), and Elisha Odhiambo (Gem).”

Duma is the sixth president of Botswana.

He made history after voters in Botswana overwhelmingly voted for him, handing victory to an opposition coalition, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) replacing the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) that ruled for nearly six decades.

According to Aljazeraa’s report, BDP lost the presidential election by a landslide for the first time in 58 years.
