Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi launches rehabilitation centre for petty offenders, bhang smokers

Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi on Wednesday launched a wellness and rehabilitation centre.

Speaking during the ground-breaking of the establishment in Rumuruti, Laikipia county, Pastor Dorcas noted that the initiative will be a joint collaboration between her office, the county governments and the judiciary.

She also mentioned that the rehab centre which will have a prayer centre, a digital hub and a sports academy among others will take in petty offenders and bhang smokers from prison.

"This rehabilitation centre that is going to be here is going to be taking thousands of those young people who have been screened and found that they need the rehabilitation.

"At the same time, in this place we are going to do something that has not been done before and that is going to be done by the national government and the county government and together with judiciary where want our children who are caught in schools in other places with petty crimes where they were caught maybe smoking bhang and all that and they are in prison," she stated.

The Woman of Cloth also highlighted that the facility will equip the youth enrolled with skills such as entrepreneurial skills that will enable them to be productive people in society.

"We want to have a detention centre here where they will be moved and come here and join the other children to go for rehabilitation and by the time they finish they will be productive in our own society," she said.

The Second Lady further reiterated her commitment to curb the use of drugs and illicit brews among the youth.

"The drug peddlers and illicit brewers work around the clock to enslave our youth and we must create safe spaces for our children in the universities and colleges to ensure institutions are not initiative. Institutions where addiction and immorality is grounded," she added.
