It was jubilation at Mutuini Sports Ground in Dagoretti South Constituency as a section of former drug addicts took to the pitch to showcase their football prowess after undergoing rehabilitation courtesy of the spouse of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Rigathi program.

It was a moment of pride to see some of the players who could barely walk before the rehab period play an entire game of football confidently.

Dorcas Rigathi was in absolute ecstasy after watching the game and noted that it was the commencement of a country- wide football tournament intended to take her anti drugs abuse campaign to a notch higher and giving a boy child a dignified future.

In the entertaining game,Kaa Sober FC emerged victorious after thumping Chini Ya Mnazi FC 3-0.

“Today, we launch a unique Football Tournament, targeting those in alcohol, drug and substance addictions here in Nairobi. We intend to have this tournament grow into a championship that covers the entire Republic of Kenya, and transforms thousands of lives across our 47 counties.

“Just like you love watching Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea games,I envision a championship that will be a must watch for all Kenyans.Not because of the score table, but because of the transformative nature of the game.

"We shall not be looking for a winner or a loser, but this will be a great tool to score against drug and substance abuse in our Nation.

"In the midst of the excitement surrounding this football tournament, I want to draw our attention to a harsh reality that many of us face daily; the grip of alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse that has ensnared far too many of our youths,” said Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

The entertainment that was conveyed by the two teams involved players that are recovering from the shackles of drug addiction in Dagoretti.

A total of 79 youths have been have undergoing rehabilitation at the Jamhuri ASK Show Ground in Nairobi for a period of one month and have shown tremendous steps towards full recovery.

The event was also attended by area Member of Parliament John Karie who thanked Dorcas Rigathi for the noble gesture.

Before the continuation of the football tournament,the campaign will heads to Kisii and Embu for medical camps that will majorly involve matatu conductors affected by alcoholism and other awful drugs.
