Chief Justice Martha Koome yesterday urged judges to reject adjournment requests in cases filed in court in order to reduce case back log in courts.

Koome said a party that is not ready to have their matter heard should withdraw their case from court.

She was speaking on Wednesday where she presided over the installation and assumption of office ceremony of the Justice Oscar Angote as Presiding Judge of the Environment and Land Court at Milimani Law Courts.

She urged the Judges to continue championing  for “no adjournment policy” once a matter has been set down for hearing as the court was not a parking lot.

“When you file a case in court, the court is not the parking lot, the case will be processed and if you are not ready for it to be heard then you should withdraw it and if you cannot withdraw it will be dismissed,” she said.

CJ Koome further encouraged the judges to embrace technology in the administration of justice and more specifically virtual courts as the Judiciary cannot fall back on the many gains achieved through virtual courts.

The CJ also commended Justice Angote on his election and assumption of office as the Presiding Judge of the Environment and Land Court.
