Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat has assured parents and guardians of enhanced security as schools prepare to reopen in Tseikuru, Kitui County, following a series of retaliatory attacks that have left scores dead.

The assurance was made during a security assessment visit to Kwa Kamari on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He urged families to send children back to school, stating that police deployments had been strengthened in the area to restore stability.

“With the new school term beginning next week, the DIG assured parents of their safety and encouraged them to send their children back to school without fear,” Lagat said.

Lagat, accompanied by General Service Unit Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, was received at Kwa Kamari Police Station by Tseikuru Sub-County Commander Joakim Mecha, SSP, where he was briefed on the prevailing security situation before engaging residents.

Security response and investigation

Lagat conveyed condolences from Inspector General Douglas Kanja to families affected by the violence and described the killings as ‘heinous, cowardly, and barbaric‘. He confirmed that investigations had been launched and said security agencies would pursue those responsible to ensure they face the full force of the law.

Call for calm and community cooperation

The DIG urged residents to remain calm and avoid retaliation, warning against taking the law into their own hands. He encouraged communities to use legal channels to resolve disputes and to work closely with security agencies by sharing intelligence to support ongoing investigations.

Lagat also called for increased collaboration between residents and law enforcement officers to help identify and arrest those behind the attacks. Senior officers, including Kyuso Sub-County Commander Samson Thuranira, SSP, also took part in the assessment visit.
