Detectives investigating the disappearance of a 17-year-old daughter of a high-ranking government official have launched a major search operation in Nairobi.

Police yesterday said the girl escaped from their Karen home along Bogani road on Monday afternoon by scaling the perimeter wall.

Police officers guarding the residence told the detectives they did not see her as they were stationed at the entrance.

One of the advisors of the official on Monday afternoon reported the matter at Hardy police station and preliminary investigations revealed that the girl was picked by a white Toyota Vitz which was immediately driven away to unknown destination.

“We have the details of the car that was waiting outside the compound and are tracing it. The missing girl was putting on a khaki pair of trousers and a black sweater,” police said.

Detectives also believe the Form 4 student could have planned the escape for a long time, according to preliminary investigation.

The parents of the girl are said to have been strict on her and have not been allowing her to get out of the compound.

Police had by yesterday afternoon not established the motive of the escape and her whereabouts but said they believed she was safe.
