Detectives recover military gear after raiding gang hideout in Eldoret
By Aloys Michael, July 7, 2026The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recovered military-style clothing and other items believed to be linked to a claimed criminal gang after detectives raided a suspected hideout in Huruma, Eldoret, as investigations into violent robberies across the Rift Valley continue.
The latest operation came less than 24 hours after four suspected gang members were fatally shot during a police operation along the Eldoret–Kiplombe–Soy Road. According to the DCI, investigators later traced what they believe was the group’s operational base in the Sungura area of Huruma Estate.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, DCI said acting on what the agency described as credible intelligence, detectives from DCI Soy raided the house, which preliminary investigations indicate served as the gang’s operational base.
“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives from DCI Soy conducted a raid on a house in Sungura area. Preliminary investigations indicate that this premise served as a base of operations for the gang’s illicit activities,” the DCI said in a statement.
During the search, detectives recovered five Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) jungle jackets, a heavy wedge hammer, a crowbar, two mobile phones and other items that investigators believe could assist ongoing investigations.

According to the DCI, the recovery of the military-style attire could provide key evidence in investigations into suspects accused of impersonating police officers and military personnel while carrying out violent robberies in parts of the Rift Valley.
“The recovery of the military-style attire adds a crucial piece to the ongoing investigations into a criminal network masquerading as police and military personnel to carry out violent robberies across the Rift Valley region,” the agency said.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the house, documenting the scene and collecting exhibits for forensic examination. The DCI said all recovered items have been secured as evidence to support ongoing investigations.
The agency added that detectives are pursuing other individuals believed to have been associated with the suspected criminal network.

“As investigations continue, detectives are hot on the trail of the gang’s fleeing accomplices, determined to unravel the full extent of this syndicate’s operations,” the statement said.
The DCI also acknowledged the role played by members of the public in supporting investigations.
“The DCI expresses its gratitude to the vigilant members of the public for their unwavering support and urges them to continue sharing information to help keep our communities safe,” the agency said.
Investigations into the case remain ongoing, with authorities expected to provide further updates as forensic analysis and intelligence-led operations continue.
