Defending champions: Uasin Gishu send two teams to volleyball quarters
Volleyball defending champions Uasin Gishu yesterday won their matches to book places in the quarters in the ongoing Kenya Inter- Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games in Kericho County.
Uasin Gishu men, like their women counterparts, national champions in the past two years romped into the quarters after humiliating Kisumu 3- 0 (25-22, 25-12 and 25-13) at Kericho High School.
The women beat their Meru counterparts to book a ticket in the quarters by 3-0 (25-15, 25-7 and 25-13)
Men’s team coach Nichoals Bitok is upbeat that his side will retain the national title saying he has experience players in the squad who are up to the task. He said and as the games progress he reviews what went wrong in some departments before correcting for the next match, a move he said has bore fruits.
“I am confident of progressing all the way to the finals because we’re really prepared for nothing short of victory. We have trained well enough and I am therefore optimistic of success,” said Bitok.
Women’s coach Ken Bitok said the team has been doing very well due to serious trainings and also a big support from the county administration. He exudes confidence of retain the overall title in that category.
Other teams (men) that have qualified for the quarters are Nandi, Nakuru, Busia, Kakamega and Murang’a . Uasin Gishu lock horns with their neighbours Nandi today in the quarters at the same venue while Nakuru meet Busia.
