AUC debate

Raila Odinga is set to take on his rivals for the African Union Commission (AUC) chair’s post in a debate set for Saturday, December 13, 2024, but even before the discourse Kenyans are expected to engage on the matter.

Some of the leaders, including President William Ruto, have been going around the country voicing their support for Raila‘s bid, but some Kenyans, especially on social media, have expressed their opposition to the bid.

As the bid divides opinion, the upcoming debate will continue to be a matter of discussion by both leaders and citizens alike.

Dubbed Mjadala Afrika, the debate will be hosted in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, with Raila facing his rivals Mahmoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti, Richard Randriamandrato from Madagascar, and Anil Gayan from Mauritius.

The debate will begin at 7:00 pm Eastern Africa Time (EAT) and will be broadcast live across the continent in six AU languages – English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swahili.

The AUC race ad debate is expected to form part of the national dialogue until it is concluded.
