Two traffickers have been arrested and 16 bales of bhang seized by detectives at Kangemi on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

The arrest was made by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Operations Support detectives after the suspects alighted from a Nairobi-bound matatu from Busia at the Kangemi flyover.

DCI detectives said the suspects had stashed 16 bales of bhang in their travel bags.

DCI’s Operations Support detectives said their arrest followed an intelligence-led pursuit of members of the public who hinted there was illicit cargo at the Trippin Shuttle Sacco matatu they were travelling in.

The two suspects namely Samuel Okello and Antony Omingo have been handed over to anti-narcotics detectives based at DCI headquarters for further processing.

Just recently, on March 8, 2024, an operation, DCI seized 67 bales of bhang and arrested two traffickers in the Kimbimbi area of Mwea in Kirinyaga County.

The suspects were stopped by the police at 2 pm while driving in a Nissan Primera at Kimbimbi. Upon searching, 30 bales of bhang were found stashed in gunny bags.

“The driver of the car who hails from Runyenjes in Embu County was arrested in the operation,” DCI boss Mohamed Amin said.

Minutes later, a Toyota with another 37 bales sped past the detectives towards Makutano junction. Detectives caught up with the suspects after a hot pursuit and arrested the driver.

“The seizure and the suspects were escorted to Nairobi for further processing,” he said.

DCI boss Mohamed Amin said the sleuths were deployed along routes that are usually used by the suspects to evade roadblocks. The suspects were caught through an intelligence-led operation in pursuit of two vehicles from Moyale.

The drug trafficking syndicate from Moyale had changed tactics from transporting consignments of the drug in false lorry compartments to using less suspicious saloon cars, Amin revealed.
