DCI launches probe into violent attack during EACC raid at Natembeya’s home
By Lutta Njomo, May 19, 2025The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an operation targeting individuals who attacked Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers and obstructed them from conducting a search in Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s home.
In a statement, DCI noted that EACC officers had obtained a search warrant to probe the governor’s involvement in a procurement deal worth Ksh1.4 billion.
According to the statement, the search started off well in the presence of Natembeya’s family members and lawyers. However, the whole operation was distracted by a group of rowdy individuals who stormed the premises.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has initiated a thorough investigation into a violent incident that occurred earlier today, during which Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers were unlawfully obstructed while carrying out their official duties in Trans Nzoia County,” the statement read in part.
“The EACC officers were acting on duly obtained search warrants to investigate allegations of irregular procurement and fictitious payments amounting to Ksh1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government that occurred during the financial years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025. The searches targeted the residence and office of Governor George Natembeya, along with four other individuals implicated in the case,” it added.
Property destroyed
Following the raid, DCI reported that five EACC vehicles were destroyed. Some of the seized items and other valuables from the cars were also stolen after the rowdy youth overpowered the security officers who had accompanied the EACC officers.
“The search at Governor Natembeya’s residence was conducted in the presence of family members, the county attorney, and legal representatives. However, the operation was disrupted when a hostile group of individuals forcibly entered the premises. Overpowering the security personnel assigned to safeguard the operation, the group unleashed chaos, maliciously damaging five EACC vehicles and stealing seized items and other valuables from the vehicles,” DCI explained.

While terming the incident as obstruction of justice, DCI has vowed to track down all the perpetrators and bring them to book.
“The attack is a blatant attempt to undermine the rule of law and obstruct justice. The DCI has launched investigations to identify and bring to book the perpetrators behind this attack.”
