DCI arrest ex chief posing as lawyer in Kiambu

A retired female chief was arrested in Gatundu, Kiambu county where she was running an illegal advocate’s office and collecting money from the public purporting to represent them in court.

The former administrator was apprehended during a joint operation by members of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the town who recovered a number of documents from unsuspecting clients.

Nairobi regional LSK representative Stephen Mbugua who coordinated the operation said the suspect was found with, among other things, chief’s stamps and succession papers despite having retired about two years ago as Ituru sub location assistant chief. Also recovered were land sale agreements, title deeds, succession and other legal transaction documents which were seized as exhibits by DCI officers who are set to arraign the suspect in court.

Mbugua said it is unfortunate that a former government officer who is fully aware of the legal implications can run such an establishment without a license and warned members of the public against falling prey to quacks.
