CS Ogamba responds to claims of unpaid KCSE examiners’ allowances

The Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has cleared the air over unpaid dues to contracted professionals engaged in the administration and marking of 2025 National Examinations and Assessments.

In a Press Release on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Ogamba pointed out that the delays are due to budgetary and cash flow constraints currently affecting the release of funds.

“The Ministry of Education wishes to acknowledge the legitimate concerns raised regarding the delayed payment of contracted professionals engaged in the administration and marking of 2025 National Examinations and Assessments,” CS Ogamba said.

According to the Education CS, the Ministry recognises the critical role played by the Supervisors & Invigilators, Security Personnel, Examiners and other Contracted Professionals in safeguarding the integrity, credibility, and timely delivery of National Assessments.

Noting that their contribution remains central to the successful execution of the national examinations calendar.

The delays in disbursement of allowances have arisen from budgetary and cash flow constraints currently affecting the release of funds. We wish to assure all affected professionals that payment remains a priority.

CS Ogamba further confirmed that the Ministry, in collaboration with the National Treasury, is actively working to resolve the matter and expedite the release of the requisite funds within the shortest time possible.

“The Ministry appreciates the patience, professionalism, and continued cooperation of all contracted personnel during this period. Moving forward, we commit to safeguard timely payment to our Contracted Professionals,” Ogamba said.

In addition, the CS stated that further updates will be communicated as appropriate.

KNEC past remarks on upaid dues

Meanwhile, following widespread reports on social media that some examiners left marking centres without receiving their dues KNEC clarified the payment of coordination fees to examiners involved in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) marking exercise.

In a statement released on Monday, December 15, 2025, KNEC confirmed that all examiners who have completed the marking process and exited the centers have been fully paid their coordination fees.

KNEC stressed that no examiner who has finalized their duties has been left unpaid.

The statement further outlined the specific papers whose examiners have already received payments.
