Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Zachariah Njeru says the Government will fast track issuance of title deeds for Narok residents to bring to an end endless land related cases in the area.

Speaking in Narok County where he officiated the opening of the Narok Bus Park a project funded by the World Bank under the Kenya Urban Support Program, CS Njeru said land is a factor of production and will empower the residents to access loans for development.

The bus park comprises 116 parking bays, 180 Stalls, 5 Offices and 3 Ablution Blocks and will enhance efficiency in the transport sector in the region.

The Kenya Urban Support Program disbursed an a total of Ksh 169.9 million to the County as Urban Development Grants (UDGs) for development which was used to construct the bus park and upgrade several roads to bitumen standards, with the County Government toping up the funds.

Housing PS Charles Hinga said the project will bring sanity to the transport sector even as it creates employment for the youth.

He said the State Department for Housing and Urban Development in line with one of its mandate, to improve urban infrastructure and services, has undertaken and will continues to undertake various programmes and projects in counties towards achieving Vision 2030.

Through the program, similar Bus parks have been established in Nyeri County, Mumias in Kakamega County, Rongo in Migori County and Marsabit County.

PS Hinga also lauded the County Government of Narok as well as the County Commissioner for identifying land for the affordable housing program.

According to the County, 149 acres of land belonging to the Ministry of Livestock have been identified. PS Hinga said the two ministry will engage on the matter and agree on what can be availed for the AHP project from the said land.

He said land is a serious factor in the AHP project and the ideal situation is where they get large parcels of Government land for development.

PS Hinga said once the AHP project commences the developer will also improve other local amenities like roads, sewerage, while at the same time creating employment opportunities for the local youth and women.  

He promised to commence the third phase of the Storm water drainage project to combat flooding which remains Narok biggest challenge.
