The Cabinet Secretary commended the will and hard work of the athlete and pointed out that her victory once again proved why Kenya is still a force to reckon with in the international long-distance running events.
“Heko, Priscah Cherono, for flying the Kenyan flag high. Congratulations to Priscah Cherono on her outstanding victory at the Los Angeles Marathon, where she delivered a dominant performance to win the women’s race in an impressive 2:25:18. Leading from start to finish, Cherono showcased remarkable endurance, discipline, and resilience to secure the title. At 45 years old, and competing in only her second professional marathon, her victory is a powerful testament to determination and the enduring strength of Kenyan athletics on the global stage.
Hongera!” Mvurya said in a statement.

Cherono’s heroic performance
Cherono gave a good performance, running 2:25:18 and winning the title. She was the one who spurred the race to the end, showing incredible stamina and restraint during the hard 42-kilometre race. Her dominant performance has seen her beat the competition by passing the finish line to emerge as the winner.
Mvurya stated that the success of Cherono was more than just his personal success but also a national accomplishment and that Kenyan athletes remain the favourites in the international road races due to discipline, resilience and hard work.
He praised her, saying that she was a person worth the nation being on the international athletics arena. What is more uplifting about the victory is that Cherono is 45 years old, and this is only her second professional marathon, which has attracted admiration from both athletics fans and sports stakeholders.

Her success emphasises the strength of perseverance and commitment, as it shows that age does not mean anything in terms of high performance in high-level sport.
The CS also indicated that the success of Cherono acts as an inspiration to the young athletes in the country, as they would be inspired to be focused and dedicated to their sporting dreams.
