Cracks in Azimio as OKA writes to halt coalition registration

Members of One Kenya Alliance coalition (OKA) are writing to the Registrar of Political Parties asking that the process of registering Azimio-One Kenya Alliance be stopped.
According to the letter, which is already signed by UDP Secretary General Bernard Wafukho and Wiper’s Shakila Abadalla, the OKA outfit feels that there is a hidden agenda to alter an original agreement that was signed by three caucuses in order to include a fourth caucus without the consent of all parties.
“We wish to bring to your attention that the ONE KENYA ALLIANCE CAUCUS comprising Wiper Democratic Movement (WIPER), Kenya African National Union (KANU), United Democratic Party (UDP), and The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) objects to the registration of the Coalition Political Party Agreement presented to you on April 9, 2022.
“Our objection is premised on the fact that three have not been agreed upon and ore to be deliberated and agreed upon before the Agreement is fully registered,” the letter reads in part.
“The number of caucuses; these had been agreed as three on 10 April 2022 and presented as four on the 9th April 2022.”
OKA has also decried the increment of the members of the coalition council under the Coalition Political Party from the initial seven to 11.
OKA also wants the process of registering the coalition political party to be halted until the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance selects the Presidential Candidate’s running mate as a Deputy Party Leader as is required under the Law.
“It is apparent that the Agreement lodged on the 1st April 2022 was withdrawn and certain clauses amended or altered without the consent of all the parties and signatories,” the letter added.
Sources have told People Daily Digital that the letter will be submitted to the office of the Registrar of Political Parties tomorrow once KANU and MDG Secretary Generals append their signatures.
