Covid-19 Update: 679 new cases recorded as positivity rate stands at 11.9 per cent

The Ministry of Health has announced 679 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in the last 24 hours from a sample size of 5,693 tested within the same period. The new cases represent a positivity rate of 11.9 per cent.

Of the new cases, 649 are Kenyans while 30 are foreigners. On gender basis, 355 are males while 324 are females.

These new cases bring the total confirmed positive cases in the country to 221,406 while the cumulative samples tested is at 2,259,150.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, 1,550 patients have recovered from the virus out of which 1,426 were on home-based isolation and care while 124 were discharged from various hospitals.

This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 203,922 with 163, 879 of them being from home-based care and isolation while 40,043 were released from various hospitals countrywide.

Sadly, 10 patients have died as a result of the pandemic with one of the cases being reported in the last 24 hours. The rest were recorded after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in August. Total fatalities now stand at 4,350.

CS Kagwe says a total of 1,981 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 9602 are under home-based isolation and care programs. 159 are at the intensive care unit (ICU); 67 of them are on ventilatory support and 85 are on supplemental oxygen. 7 patients are under observation.

78 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 712 of them in general wards and 56 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

The CS noted that a total of 2, 053,717 Kenyans have been vaccinated against Covid-19 out of which 1,305,850 account for the first dose while 747,867 are second doses.
