Fifty two people have been taken into mandatory quarantine in Murang’a after police impounded a lorry in which they were being ferried in on Wednesday.
They are said to be casual laborers who were being ferried to a farm located in Maragua ridge in lower Murang’a.
According to Murang’a south deputy county commissioner Mawira Mungania, the vehicles were intercepted by the police at a road block on the Kenol Murang’a road after getting a tip off from the members of the public.
He said the vehicle had picked them up from Mugoiri in Kiharu and were being taken to work on a coffee farm.
“We got a tip off from the members of the public and the police officers were able to track the lorry,” he said.
Mungania said they are looking for the owner of the lorry who is also believed to own the coffee estate and he shall be charged for violating the law.
County chief officer for health James Gitau said the 52 shall be on isolation for the next 14 days and they shall be tested for the corona virus.
He also said they shall cater for their own expense for the time they shall stay at the quarantine center.
