Court orders Babu Owino treated at remand prison’s hospital

By , January 24, 2020

A Nairobi court yesterday ordered Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili popularly known as Babu Owino to be treated at the Industrial Area remand prison facility.

The directive came  after Owino, who is currently remanded over  attempted murder charges, failed to appear in court for hearing of incitement to violence case where he is accused of subversion and uttering abusive words against President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.

Trial Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot declined to issue the order to have Owino referred to a different hospital saying  the prison has sufficient medical care outfits at which  he can be attend to.

Owino through his lawyer informed the court that he was suffering from chest pains and urged the court to direct he be taken to another facility other than the prison clinic. The magistrate adjourned hearing to February 7.
