Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Sunday gave his Covid-19 briefing at Othaya in Nyeri where he also delivered a message from President Kenyatta.

At Kenyatta National Hospital Othaya Annex, about 20km from his Mukurweini hometown, the CS said the Head of State will officially open the KNH-Othaya referral.

“You have been greeted by the President, he called now and he shall come to open the hospital(in native language),” said CS Kagwe.

CS Kagwe was accompanied by his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru, KNH chairman George Ooko and among other leaders. Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga hosted him.

The CS delivered ‘goodies’ to help fight coronavirus in Nyeri, Laikipia and Nyandarua.

He confirmed 137 more coronavirus cases where the total cases in the country climbed to 3594.

CS Kagwe also sensitized about Non-Communicable Diseases(NCD) like cancer and diabetes that are also a public health concern.

He noted that the NCDs make about a third of total deaths in the country. He said Nyeri is a hotspot for NCDs where they cause close to half of total deaths in the county.

In partnership with Amref Africa, the CS also unveiled plans to generate medical oxygen at the KNH Othaya annex.
