Construction of Jomvu-Miritini highway starts
Construction work has resumed at a section of the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway at the Kwa Jomvu-Miritini road under the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
Work on the 700 meter-section had stalled for several years due to persistent court battles pitting the contractor against squatters, who were seeking compensation to pave way to the highway. Transport and infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen (below) said on Monday that on February 25, the construction would start after resolution of the squatter compensation processes.
“The President and I will soon come here to launch its completion”, said Murkomen, who also hinted at successful talks with the European Union.
Area MP Badi Twalib had raised concern on the dusty road to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during his visit to Jomvu two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, dualing of Likoni-Lunga Lunga Road will start this April to connect the South Coast to Mombasa mainland, while work on the Dongo Kundu special economic zone is on course.
“In April, we will come to launch the Likoni-Lunga Lunga Road,”said Murkomen when he toured the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) on Monday to unveil the new board of management, led by chairman Benjamin Tayari.
