The Teachers Service Commission  has unveiled new  Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) training dates for 18,000 teachers.

In a circular dated November 30, the commission indicated the training will commence next week and run through to December 22.

TSC will adopt both face-to-face and virtual models for the programme.

Training will kick off with virtual training of Curriculum Support Officers (CSO) and Early Grade Mathematics Assessment (EGMA) champions on CBC Mathematic content for Grades One to Three using Microsoft Teams on December 9 -11.

“The Master trainers will train the CSOs and CBC Champions, both regular and for Special Needs Education (SNE) at the county level for three days,” TSC stated, in the circular addressed to Regional Directors and TSC County Directors.

CSOs and CBC Champions, both for regular and SNE will then train teachers through face-to-face model with strict adherence to Ministry of Health (MoH) Covid-19 prevention protocols for four days.

“There will be two CBC teacher champions and one CSO per zone. Each zonal training should conduct at least two separate classes being facilitated by the CBC champions and the other by CSO, they can be exchanging the sessions,” advised TSC.

TSC has also directed that teachers be trained in small classes of 45-50.

On the other hand, CSOs and CBC Mathematic champions will continue with training of Grade One to Three teachers on CBC Mathematics content for two days, with master trainers expected to offer professional support during  zonal teacher training.

Target groups include head teachers from regular and SNE schools, two teachers from Grade Four and two teachers from Grade One  and Two for CBC Mathematics.

The structure of training caters for residential training for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) and SNE teachers while non-residential will be adopted for non-ASAL counties.
