Open Institute has underscored the need to enhance accountability and transparency in county governments by involving the public in decision-making.

The organisation noted that as the country gears up toward the General Election, there is a need to use data in driving public participation and engagement.

Launching a partnership action plan with Nandi County, the group’s Executive Director Al Kags (pictured) said the virtual data desk would be instrumental in the efforts to achieve transparency and accountability in public offices.

He said the information would help the electorate to put their leaders on the development scorecard.

“ The data platform would minimise misappropriation of the taxpayer’s money and misuse of public offices,” he said.

Nandi County Deputy Governor Yulitah Mitei said the data desk would help residents assess progress in various critical areas including agriculture, health and infrastructure development to the ward level.
