Community health volunteers (CHVs) in Nyandarua are owed Sh25 million in stipend arrears, the county assembly heard on Wednesday. 

Issuing a statement requested by Githioro ward MCA, Isaac Mbae, the chairman of Health Committee Paul Ngeche said the 1,390 CHVs have not received their stipend since July last year despite the money meant for them being appropriated in the budget. 

Kinangop constituency has the bulk of the CHVs with 500, followed by Ol Kalou with 257 while Kipipiri 215, Ndaragwa 213 and Ol Jororok 205 follow in that order. 

The Committee chairman noted that the County has no guidelines outlining the engagement of CHVs, their supervision, welfare and capacity building.
