Cherargei: I expected DCI and NCIC to act over Kalonzo’s remarks on General Ogolla’s death
By Kenneth Mwenda, December 8, 2025Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has criticised former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka over comments he made regarding the death of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla.
Taking to X on Monday, December 8, 2025, Cherargei said he expected the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to have summoned Kalonzo to record a statement.
“I expected the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) & National Cohesion Integration Commission (NCIC) to have summoned former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to record a statement on the reckless statement he made over the death of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla Omondi,” Cherargei posted.
He described Kalonzo’s statement as insensitive, reckless, unfortunate and politically expedient towards the family, the Kenya Defence Forces, and Kenyans. Cherargei added that Kalonzo should avoid using the Kenya Defence Forces for cheap and populist politics of hate and division.
“To Kalonzo, that was an insensitive, reckless, unfortunate and political expedient statement to the family, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Kenyans. You should keep off the Kenya Defence forces from your cheap and populist politics of hate and division.”
Kalonzo recently spoke about the matter during the funeral of Beryl Odinga, the sister of Raila Odinga. In his remarks, he maintained that General Ogolla’s death in the April 2024 helicopter crash was not accidental. He challenged the Kenya Defence Forces’ postmortem report and called for an independent investigation.
Several Kenya Kwanza allied MPs have also called for Kalonzo to record a statement with the DCI.
Kalonzo demands further inquiry
Kalonzo has remained firm in his position. He dismissed the official postmortem findings and reiterated his belief that the CDF’s death required further investigation. He noted that both the CDF and the President are among the most heavily protected individuals in the country, suggesting that negligence or sabotage would be a matter of national concern.
Months earlier, on April 24, 2025, Kalonzo publicly stated he was ready to record a statement with the DCI. At the time, he called for an independent inquiry into the helicopter crash that killed General Ogolla and other officers. He also questioned why the CDF had been tasked with inspecting primary schools, suggesting that this raised further concerns.
The Ministry of Defence report concluded that a catastrophic engine malfunction caused the helicopter to crash.
