Cherargei calls out Sifuna as ODM marks 20th anniversary

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has aimed a slight dig at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for his firm stand in the party’s direction as they mark 20 years of its existence.

On Saturday night, November 15, 2025, ODM founding members, including President William Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, gathered at a Mombasa hotel to reflect on the formation and two decades of the party’s existence.

While speaking during the ODM at the 20th anniversary youth celebration, Sifuna expressed his frustration over how a once vibrant party has been taken to such a level that its members now have to depend on others.

Sisi watu wa ODM siku izi tunakaa watu wa omba omba, mnaomba nini sasa? Haki yenu ni haki yenu; hakuna cha kuomba,” Sifuna stated.

However, in their messages to the remaining ODM members in the absence of its long-service leader, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, President Ruto and Musalia Mudavadi urged the party’s top leadership to keep it united in honouring the legacy left behind by Raila Odinga.

Following his latest remarks, Senator Cherargei has attacked his fellow legislator Edwin Sifuna in his current capacity as ODM Secretary General, after Ruto and Mudavadi reflected on the formation of ODM.

Cherargei chides Sifuna

“Yesterday, during the ODM founders’ dinner graced by H.E. Dr Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, was a great honour to the legacy of Baba Raila Odinga.”

“When ODM founders were speaking, the newbies of ODM, led by Sifuna & his cabal, chickened out because they don’t know the real ideologies of the original ODM of agitation, democracy and partnerships that were anchored on its formation.”

“People should STOP being hard on Hon. Winnie Odinga on what she is saying; for heaven’s sake, she is still mourning her beloved Dad, Raila Odinga,” Cherargei took to X on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

In his message at the event, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi praised the late ODM party leader Odinga for his patriotism as the outfit marks 20 years since its formation. He also regretted celebrating 20 years of the party’s formation without the man at the centre of it, who passed away in October 2025.

Raila missed

“The absence of the late Rt Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga was deeply felt, reminding us of a leader whose courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism steadied our nation through defining moments,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime CS reflected on Raila Odinga’s selflessness, recalling how he consistently chose Kenya first.

”During the constitution-making process, he stepped back from the push for a parliamentary system but firmly safeguarded the inclusion of devolution, a choice that transformed our governance structure,” Mudavadi noted.
