Champ Ndigiti excited ahead of joining KDF

As Dominic Samson Ndigiti nears joining the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), he is thankful to God for how far he has brought him.
The Africa Under-20 10,000m race walking champion says his life is a testament of what the impact sports has to an ordinary person.
To Ndigiti, joining KDF is Godsend as it will give him an opportunity to train in a better environment, with qualified coaches and improved facilities.
“I am seeing how the fortunes of my family are slowly changing. I come from a very humble background, one that is being transformed by the power of sports,” Ndigiti told People Sport.
“My family was previously being seen as nobodies, with no sense of respect from neighbours but from where I see it now, there is some sense of mutual respect,” he added.
“I thank God that it is going to get even better for the entire family now that another door has opened.
For me, joining the force is an opportunity to be of service to my country and also earn a living,” said the athlete, who hails from Sensi location in Marani, Kisii County.
The 19-year-old, who finished seventh at the 2018 World Under-20 Championships held in Tampere, Finland, is working on getting to shape for what could be his maiden Olympics.
“I want to keep challenging myself, work hard each day. Reflecting where I have come from motivates and gives me the hunger to be a better competitor.” added.
