Caroli Omondi urges Ruto to enlist services of FBI and Scotland Yard to fight corruption

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has called on President William Ruto to consider requesting external help in the fight against corruption.

Speaking during a vernacular TV show on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Caroli indicated that the current investigative agencies and structures in place to fight graft have proven to be ineffective.

“If we truly want to fight corruption, we must enlist the services of agencies from outside the country, because countries like Singapore have also done the same. We could hire agencies like the FBI, Scotland Yard, because they have a long history of conducting corruption investigations,” Caroli said.

Incorporate into local agencies

“If we have such people incorporated in our DCI wings and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), several people will be arrested and arraigned for corruption.”

He added that Kenya could also consider forming special courts charged with the sole mandate of handling corruption cases.

“Additionally, we need special courts for dealing with corruption cases only. I am also working on a criminal investigation bill which will have a chapter on the investigation of corruption cases and involve international mutual assistance,” Caroli said.

The legislator questioned Ruto’s commitment to fighting graft in the country, noting that as the leader of the majority party in both houses of parliament, he had done nothing to eradicate corruption.

Doing nothing

“When Ruto says there is corruption in parliament, yet he is the leader of UDA, which is the majority party, what has he done about the graft? What prevented him from convening a meeting with his party officials and calling out these incidents of corruption?” Caroli posed.

“Parliament is a reflection of society, and it contains all manner of people. Just like a marketplace, parliament equally houses mad men in society.”

Ruto’s remarks on the corruption at the National Assembly and the Senate have elicited mixed reactions, with a section of MPs expressing their discontent with remarks while the others embracing the commitment to fight graft.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, parliament sittings were dominated by reactions to Ruto’s exposure of the rot in the legislature, with a section of MPs urging the Speaker of Parliament to summon Ruto to substantiate his remarks.
