Calm restored at Uganda border

Calm has been restored along the troubled Kenya–Uganda border following weeks of hostilities among herders from the two countries.

A multi-agency security team from Kenya and Uganda has intensified patrols in a bid to quell rising tension, which has led to killings and displacements.

Leaders from the warring communities also accompanied the Kenyan troops with other security forces and held a peace meeting at the Amermer border point which has for the last one-month been a battle ground.

Former West Pokot Governor John Lonyangauo who is one of the affected people after his livestock was stolen called on residents to shun retaliatory attacks.

“There is a need for a solution to this banditry menace. This will be achieved through the establishment of more border peace schools,” he said.
