Busia gubernatorial aspirants resolve to back one candidate

Five aspirants for Busia county gubernatorial seat have resolved to support one candidate in the 2022 General Election.
Busia Senator Amos Wako, former Funyula MP Dr Paul Otuoma, Nambale lawmaker John Bunyasi, Deputy governor Moses Mulomi and Engineer Vincent Sidai said they will deliberate on the issue and settle on a candidate to contest the gubernatorial seat in the next polls.
Leaders say they made the decision as the only sure way to create unity ahead on the next elections.
“We made the move as the only way to create unity among the residents ahead of the 2022 General Election,” said the politicians.
Led by Wako, the leaders said they will hold negotiations among themselves to get the way forward.
“You will see a white smoke from Busia very soon following our discussions,” said Wako.
Governor Sospeter Ojaamong also declared that he will also support his Deputy Moses Mulomi in 2022 among other leaders seeking to succeed him.
Ojaamong appealed to Engineer Sidai, a Teso, to withdraw from the race and leave it for Luhyas only.
The aspirants were speaking at Nyapera village in Butula sub-county during the burial of Mulomi’s son, Daniel Okhoba, who passed on in Kakamega last week.
Hands over
Wako told Ojaamong it is his turn to hand over leadership to Luhyas, as per the Memorandum of Understanding, struck between Teso and Luhya communities in 2013 elections, when he took over power.
Funyula MP Dr Oundo Mudenyo said the talks will benefit Busia residents, sentiments which were echoed by Busia County Assembly Speaker Bernard Wamalwa.
