Bunyore, Kangemi top women’s Division One leagues
High-flying Bunyore Starlets maintained their lead in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Division One as former Kenya Women’s Premier League side Nyuki Starlets bounced back strongly in match day two.
Bunyore Starlets who stunned Nyuki Starlets in match day one, overpowered hosts Royal Starlets 2-0 in a match played at Birunda Stadium Kitale, to make it two wins out of two and remain top of Zone B with six points.
“This is our second time in the league, and so far so good. Our approach is good, we’re taking it a game at a time.
The girls are determined to go to the premier league after missing out last season by a solitary point,” Bunyore Starlets coach Zacharia Amakhang’a told People Sport as he appealed to corporate sponsors to invest more on women’s football.
In another match, Gusii Starlets were stunned by visiting Bomet Starlets after going down 3-0 in their backyard at Sameta Stadium, Kisii county.
The win has catapulted Bomet to second on the log with three points while Nyuki Starlets have moved to the third after drubbing former WPL side Vihiga Leeds 3-0 in Kakamega on Saturday.
Solasa Stima Queens are their fourth with three points despite not playing at the weekend, while Royal Starlets and Gusii Starlets have dropped to fifth and sixth places.
Bartolimo of Baringo drew 0-0 with hard-fighting Tombe River Plate of Nyamira to move to seventh on the log with a point after sitting out in week one and tie with Tombe River Plate with a point each. Vihiga Leeds are bottom.
In Zone A, MTG United, who had started week one strongly, fell 1-0 at the hands of Sunderland Samba FC, while Kangemi Starlets continued their good run after beating hosts Msato Starlets 2-0.
