Police arrested youths allied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Daniel Odhiambo and confiscated crude weapons in a vehicle they were travelling in.

The Tuesday election turned out to be a political contest between Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) candidate David Ochieng and Odhiambo who are sworn rivals.

Outgoing MP has remained a threat in the flesh of Odhiambo and their supporters do not see eye to eye hence today’s elections opened the wounds.

A police officer, who sought anonymity, said they intercepted a vehicle with deadly weapons on Monday evening.

“On the eve of election day, we intercepted a vehicle at Siranga in Ugenya sub-county that was carrying crude weapons including sharp pangas and we have again got some at Bar-Ndege polling station where the rival supporters had clashed,” he said.

The hotly contested Ugenya parliamentary election has been marred by clashes, chaos, bribery allegations, and arrests.
