Football Kenya Federation (FKF) electoral board chairman Edwin Wamukoya mainatained yesterday that branch involving 18 counties tomorrow will go on as planned.
The county elections will have Nairobi float two branches owing to its high number of clubs. National polls to pick he federation’s president will be held on December 7.
“We have had a session with our returning officers whom we have prepared well for the polls.
They know what is expected of them in the exercise which will be free and fair,” said Wamukoya after the board took 36 returning officers through a rigorous training for the upcoming exercise in Nairobi yesterday.
Questions linger over the validity of the elections Sports Registrar asked the federation to postpone the exercise until certain criteria had been met. However, Wamukoya remains adamant. “Yes there was a letter from the Sports Registrar, and no, it was not addressed to the electoral board. It should be remembered that we are two separate entities,” said Wamukoya. He announced that each county will have two returning officers.
He cited another case at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) on the composition of the Electoral Board which was filed by former federation president Sam Nyamweya and four others.
“The SDT postponed the ruling on whether the FKF elections should go on or not.
They did not stop the election. There was another case in the high court, that too was deferred to February next year.
They never stopped the election.
There are procedures of stopping an election, a letter is not one of them,” he said.
Wamukoya said the board had s finalised the list of eligible voters from all affiliated clubs and that voting material will be dispatched today.
