Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok and his opponents, former Petroleum Chief Administrative Secretary John Mosonik and Chama Cha Mashinani leader Isaac Ruto, were on Tuesday forced to eat humble pie and agreed to work together.

The development comes after the Kipsigis’ Myoot (Council of Elders), led by chairman Paul Leleito and chairperson of the College of bishops Stanley Koech intervened, leading to a deal that will see the three governor aspirants attend a prayer meeting this Saturday.

Mosonik and Ruto had threatened that they would not attend the much-hyped cleansing ceremony.  While Ruto had expressed his reservations over the meeting saying he does not recognise the elders leading the ceremony, Mosonik on the other hand said he was not to blame for the chaos that rocked the Deputy President William Ruto’s event on January 10 to warrant him to attend the event.

He also argued that Barchok had organised the event to redeem his image hence gain political mileage out of it.

“Those elders have been all over insulting us. So how are they now talking of cleansing? Let them first come and apologise,” Ruto said.

“I was attending the DP’s event as a senior leader. I am not to blame for whatever happened because I was not even consulted on the preparations so I cannot be dragged into such meetings,” Mosonik  said earlier. However, after the agreement, the leaders reached an agreement to bury their political differences and attend the ceremony.

Trio met early in the morning in a closed-door meeting at the governor’s office before holding a joint meeting with the clergy and elders.
