Bomet aspirants trade blame over DP Ruto visit chaos
Bomet governor Hillary Barchok and his foremost rival for the seat, Isaac Ruto have traded accusations over the chaos that reigned during Deputy President William Ruto’s rally in the county on Monday.
Barchok claimed the former county boss ferried supporters to the meeting and even paid them to jeer other leaders opposed to him.
He claimed that Ruto organised the chaos to portray the DP in bad light.
“We know what his plans were and we even know where the money came from…it is clear this man never attended our meeting for any good cause but to disrupt it,” said Barchok who addressed the press at his office on Wednesday.
He also pointed out he has no apologies to make for setting the record straight before the event the meeting was purely a UDA affair and Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) leader was uninvited.
Terming the incident as regretful, the governor apologised to the DP over the incident saying the CCM party leader’s agenda is now clear.
“I want to apologise to the Deputy President on behalf of the people of Bomet for what transpired during the function.
It was so unfortunate and it is now clear to everyone and country at large that some individuals like violence,” he stated.
Responding to the allegations, the CCM party leader accused Barchok of dishonesty, telling him to stop peddling lies.
He argued that Barchok is the one to blame for the chaos since he is the one who ferried people to the function.
“He is the one who ferried 90 percent of the attendees to the meeting…everyone there had yellow T-shirts, did you see any CCM branded materials? I am the only one who had a blue cap no one else,” he stated.
Addressing the press in Bomet, Ruto accused the governor of resorting to daft ways of organising for the function to an extent stopping him from attending and welcome the DP and even entering the governor’s office.
