Bomb scare in Kikuyu as residents discover live explosive

Panic gripped Nduma village in Kikuyu on Friday, October 24, 2025, after residents stumbled upon what turned out to be a live bomb, sending shockwaves across the small community. What began as a normal day quickly turned into a tense scene as police rushed to secure the area.

According to residents, the strange metallic object was first thought to be an ordinary piece of scrap before closer inspection raised suspicion. The discovery drew dozens of curious villagers who gathered around to witness what was happening before police intervened and cleared the scene for safety.

“Kwangu kwa akili mimi nliweza kuona na mimi ni mtu napenda kuwatch movie nikaona kitu kama hio, nyuma ilikuwa inakaa kama misile nikawa suspicious and after that ikacha ikajulikana kuwa ni real bomb, watu walishtuka sana na wengi walikuja wakitaka kuiguza but kulikuwa na watu wa kuwacontrol,” said a resident of Nduma, describing how fear quickly spread once it became clear the device was dangerous.

Police officers from Kikuyu Station, led by Commander Joseph Ndege, arrived at the scene and immediately called in a bomb disposal unit to examine and neutralise the explosive. Officers moved swiftly to keep residents at a safe distance as experts handled the device.

The explosive, believed to be an old war remnant, was later confirmed to be a live 80mm bomb, a high-powered explosive that could have caused massive destruction if detonated in the area.

“This bomb was actually alive one, the same was, the same was confirmed by the bomb disposal team which was called, in our investigation, we discovered that this bomb was a high explosive one that is 80mm, a team drawn from bomb disposal confirmed that this device its magnitude in terms of explosion cannot be detornated within this area,” said Joseph Ndege, the Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander.

Residents have been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious metallic objects they come across.

The bomb has since been safely removed and taken for controlled detonation in a secure area as police continue to investigate its origin. The incident has left villagers shaken but grateful that the disaster was averted in time.
