Boarding school in Laikipia for warring tribes

A boarding primary school to cater for children from warring communities in Laikipia county to create generational harmony and achieve peace has been built.
Naibor Amani primary school is located in Laikipia North’s Sosian area that is inhabited by Pokot, Turkana and Samburu communities that normally turn it into a battle field due to raids over animals.
The school is a brainchild of the area MP Sarah Lekorere and was officially opened at the weekend in a ceremony full of calls by leaders led by Education Minister Ezekiel Machogu for peaceful coexistence between communities.
Construction of the modern school was funded by Loisaba Conservancy, the Nature Conservancy, Laisaba Community Trust and the CDF. Family of former Speaker of Parliament Francis ole Kaparo donated 40 acres of land for the project.
The CS said he was surprised that Sh45 million only had been used to put up the whole new boarding primary school. “This project has set a good example that little money can do wonders if well used.”
Speaking when he officially opened several buildings of the school, he said the challenge the government was facing was pillage of funds meant for public projects.
Lekorere said the school whose construction started in 2019 will be a reminder of the efforts the Laikipia people have made in search of peace.
Majority Whip, Silvanus Osoro who is also MP for South Mugirango, Nyandarua senator John Methu and Ndaragwa MP George Gachagua said they felt challenged by the project.
