Deputy President William Ruto has blamed the Jubilee administration for the current unemployment rate in the country.

Speaking in Migori county on Saturday, September 25, Ruto who was flanked by area governor Okoth Obado told the residents that the government had failed in securing the economic welfare of Kenyans.

“It is the role of the government to come up with policies that will ensure the youth are employed or they can run a business of their own. Those who do not have a business or are unemployed are in this state because the government has failed,” Ruto said.

In his argument, the DP said taking care of Kenyans at the bottom of the pecking order should be the priority of the government instead of the clamour for constitutional change.

“Every now and then especially when we are approaching general elections people come with the idea of changing the constitution so that we have different seats for leaders

“Before we change the constitution, let us work on reviving the economy first so that those who are unemployed can get jobs and the general welfare of Kenyans,” Ruto said.

The recent statement by Ruto in Migori comes after he pledged to allocate Ksh120m next year to support small scale traders across the nation.

“We assure you that in this new political journey, no Kenyan will be left lagging behind. Just like we set aside Ksh120m for every constituency to build schools through the constituency development fund, next year we will preserve another Ksh120m to support mama mboga, boda boda and kiosk operators. We will also ensure they access government loans that charge low interests and in turn enable them to run their businesses seamlessly,” he said.
