Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has reached out to the County Assembly in a quest to complete Sh5.45 billion stalled development projects he inherited from his predecessor, Jackson Mandago.

Bii said his administration has been grappling with the challenge of completing the projects because of a constrained budget.

“It is now 398 days in office working together and demonstrating unity of purpose on our mandate. However, I wish to bring to your attention and seek your indulgence in the challenges touching on the ongoing multi-year projects initiated in the last term,” Bii said in his statement to the Assembly.

“We would rather we consider scaling down some of the projects so that we are able to complete based on priorities and the impact to  the residents of Uasin Gishu County bearing in mind the ‘Nguzo Kumi’ Manifesto and the third generation County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP),” added the county boss.

Hospitals

The projects, People Daily established, are in the departments of Health,  Administration, Sports and Cooperatives.

Bii cited some of the projects which have stalled and in need of more funding as Ziwa Level 5 hospital, Kesses Level 4 hospital, Moiben Level 4 hospital, Turbo Level 4 hospital, Cluster 3 and 4 ward offices.

Others are Chagaiya High altitude training centre, 64 Stadium, Moi-Soy farmers’ cooperative union, Ngenyilel VTC, Jackson Mandago special needs assessment center, among others.

“I wish to thank the friends of Uasin Gishu County government, those who have stood with us, those who have prayed for us and those who have worked this journey with us within and outside the County,” Bii said in his statement to the Assembly.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to work with the Assembly in ensuring efficient service delivery to residents.

“I give you my commitment and that of my government that we will work tirelessly to ensure we deliver for you, the people of Uasin Gishu County,” said Bii.

“I can confirm that hali ya kaunti yetu iko  imara! (our county is on the right track),” added the governor.

Fire rescue

At the same time, Governor Bii yesterday commissioned two water bowsers with a capacity of carrying 32,000 litres of water which will help in response to fire emergencies.

The two bowsers are equipped with a powerful pump that can help put out fire without necessarily using the normal fire engine.

In case of emergency, the bowsers are fitted with a siren and a bicon system to help avoid obstruction during emergency operations.

According to Bii, the two water bowsers are a  milestone in upgrading the fire and rescue department to enhance service delivery.

“We are an enviable county when it comes to fire and disaster management in the North Rift region. We are now more equipped and ready to help our brothers and help ourselves on matters concerning fire and rescue,” said Bii who was accompanied by his Deputy John Barorot.

Others who attended the function at the county headquarters included Roads, Transport, and Public Works Chief Executive Joseph Lagat, Director of Planning and Administration at the Department of Roads Wainaina Kimingi, County officer in charge of Fire and Disaster Management Wanyama Sitati.
