The Kakamega County Government has invited Directorate of Criminal Investigations to help them probe and uncover a syndicate of massive theft of drugs at the Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Governor Fernandes Barasa and his deputy Ayub Savula yesterday said there was a cartel that had been stealing drugs and other medical equipment to the detriment of patients.
They said there was widespread suffering of patients who sought treatment at the facility and that they had reached out to DCI to help unravel the state of affairs.
They further said the Health Committee was also conducting parallel investigations into the matter. Barasa said the report should be debated submitted to the Executive within a month for appropriate action.
