Babu Owino urges Kenyans to register as voters to defeat corruption and impunity in 2027
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has added his voice to the mounting appeal for people to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise undertaken by the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC).
In a statement on his X page on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Babu, who has declared his bid to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, implored individuals to prevail on their friends to take advantage of the window and register for the important civic duty.
Transfer votes to Nairobi
“Ukimaliza kuregister ama kutransfer your vote to Nairobi, ambia mabeste zako pia wachukue kura at the IEBC Constituency offices,” he stated.

The lawmaker reemphasised the significance of the exercise, alluding to his earlier remarks as the country’s only chance to redress the wrong rife in government.
“2027 is our only chance to defeat corruption and impunity,” he added.
Babu Owino’s call echoes former Chief Justice David Maraga’s campaign to register five million new voters.
His remarks come days after the ODM legislator took a major political shift by endorsing Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Babu endorses Kalonzo
Speaking at a public event on Monday, September 29, 2025, Babu said Kenyans must be ready to make a change through the ballot.

He said Kenyans must register as voters so that they can remove President Ruto from power and support Kalonzo Musyoka instead. According to Babu, Ruto has failed because he is busy antagonising the country instead of organising it.”
“You must register as a voter so that we disappoint Ruto and appoint Kalonzo because Ruto is busy antagonising this country instead of organising it,” Babu said.
New path
In defence of his choice, Babu exuded optimism that the former VP would unite the country and fix what he described as poor leadership under the current administration.
The MP insisted that the goal should be to prepare early so that when the election comes, the outcome reflects the will of the people.
The lawmaker has been one of the most vocal critics of the Ruto regime, with his stance adding to his history of sharp attacks on the government.
He argued that the country cannot move forward under Ruto’s style of leadership and that it is time for Kenyans to choose a new path.
