Babu Owino expresses sympathy for struggling Kenyans after interaction with Bondo residents
By Luke Oluoch, December 7, 2025Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has highlighted the plight of a majority of low-income Kenyan families as he traversed the Bondo constituency in Siaya County on Saturday, December 6, 2026.
In a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, Babu, who was among the politicians at the funeral of Beryl Odinga in Bondo, shared in the plight of ordinary Kenyans struggling to put food on the table and raise a decent livelihood for themselves and their families.
Unbroken spirits
“Yesterday in Akala, Bondo Constituency, I witnessed something powerful: the strength, the resilience, and the unbroken spirit of our people. I saw mothers fighting to feed their families, young people searching for opportunities that seem just out of reach, and hard-working men and women carrying the weight of a system that has not always been fair to them,” part of his statement read.
The legislator expressed his empathy with the Akala residents, as he acknowledged the dire situation created by a rising cost of living and reduced opportunities for people to make ends meet.

“Today, I speak not just as a leader but as a fellow Kenyan who feels your pain, your frustration, and your hopes. We are living through a time when the cost of living has become unbearable, when opportunities are shrinking instead of growing, and when corruption steals from us,” his statement concluded.
The lawmaker made a stop at the populated village on his way back from the burial of Raila Odinga’s sister, Beryl Achieng.
Silent attendees
The MP was among the lawmakers who attended the ceremony in Bondo in silence after he failed to formally address mourners in a sombre ceremony that was nonetheless dominated by speeches teeming with political undertones.
He, however, had a brief acknowledgement from Winnie Odinga, who rose on the invitation of her mom and made a reference to the MP, describing him as her friend.
Babu later took to social media, thanking the people who spoke for him during the event; he claimed some people did not want him to speak.
“They never wanted me to speak today at the burial, but the people spoke for me,” he said on his accompanying post to a video of the crowd erupting upon his introduction of MPs in attendance.
