Azimio protests against Ruto’s poll victory not justified — Wetang’ula
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has condemned the ongoing demonstrations organised by the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance.
Wetang’ula said the Supreme Court upheld President William Ruto’s victory and there was no need for mass protests.
“Kenyans made their verdict on the ballot and IEBC which is a legally constituted body declared him the winner. Our opponent went to the Supreme Court which ruled in our favour. The opposition should respect this and give the President time to serve Kenyans,” said the Speaker.
“Even if you are courting a girl and your friend wins her over, you cannot go to his house and throw stones everyday,” added Wetang’ula.
He said President Ruto is just settling down in office and he is yet to even present his first budget to Parliament.
“Those complaining over the high cost of living should understand that the budget we are using is the one inherited from the past regime,” said Wetang’ula.
Property right
The Speaker condemned attacks on journalists and destruction of property including the invasion of land belonging to the Kenyatta family on Monday.
“I want to personally address retired president Uhuru Kenyatta. Pole sana ndugu yangu kwa hao wahuni walivamia shamba lako. Every Kenya has a right for his property to be protected. We cannot condone such acts of lawlessness. We urge the IG to investigate and ensure every Kenyan is protected regardless of their political affiliation,” said Wetang’ula.
He, however, urged the former President not to get involved in politics and enjoy his retirement peacefully.
